|b "Richmond, James (1930-) James Richmond was born in Troon in the West of Scotland on 11 April 1931 and educated at Marr College, Troon. He then studied at the University of Glasgow, taking his MA in 1952, subsequently proceeding in 1955 to a BD with first class honours in systematic theology. Notable figures then at Glasgow were the theologians Ronald Gregor Smith, who mediated the ever-powerful influence of German thought and notably that of Rudolf Bultmann, and Ian Henderson, a redoubtable champion of Scottish Presbyterian autonomy in the face of Episcopalian 'power without glory'. Having won many awards and scholarships at the University of Glasgow, Richmond's exceptional promise was intimated by his winning of Brown Downie Fellowship against competition from students of all four Scottish divinity faculties. This award enabled Richmond to undertake advanced study of German in Göttingen and West Berlin 1955.
