RT Article T1 Einleitung: Soziologie der Spiritualität JF Zeitschrift für Religionswissenschaft VO 13 IS 2 SP 123 OP 132 A1 Knoblauch, Hubert 1959- LA German PB Diagonal-Verlag YR 2005 UL https://www.ixtheo.de/Record/1523202033 AB In introducing the special volume of the German Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion on the »Sociology of Spirituality«, this paper summarises the various aspects pertaining to contemporary spirituality, such as (1) the determined orientation towards extraordinary experiences that are interpreted as transcendent. The multiple sources of these interpretations may be characterised as »alternative religiosity « since they draw on non-hegemonial (eastern, archaic, occult, mystic etc.) religious traditions. (3) Distance to religious dogmas and a tendency to anti-institutionalism is combined with (4) a stress on religious autonomy and an individualistic world-view. Experience-orientation allows for (5) a form of holism that attempts to counter the functional differentiation of society and of one’s life world. Finally there are indications that the notion of spirituality tends to become an alternative to »religion« in ordinary language. DO 10.1515/zfr.2005.13.2.123
