Topics discussed include the reputation of the early Schleiermacher as both a Spinozist and a determinist, the espousal by the later Schleiermacher of a metaphysics of substance, and his engagement with the work of German philosophers Immanuel Kant and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz.
