RT Article T1 Augustine and Fulgentius: Parallel or Vying African Lives? JF Journal of early Christian history VO 6 IS 1 SP 1 OP 28 A1 De Marre, Martine Elizabeth Agnès LA English PB Taylor & Francis Group YR 2016 UL https://www.ixtheo.de/Record/1562717952 AB The biography of the north African Christian Father, Fulgentius, features a number of parallels with the life of his illustrious North African predecessor, Augustine. This article aims to show that the author of this biography knew and was reacting to what was known about Augustine in his own time, and was painting his subject as having surpassed Augustine in many ways. In particular the relationships between Augustine and Fulgentius and their respective prominent mother-figures (Monnica and Mariana) are discussed, where the later author will be shown to have transformed the mother-image to serve a particular hagiographical purpose.
