Sumario:This study looks to identify commonalities between the ideas of the prominent sixth/twelfth-century mystics ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī (d. 561/1166) and Abū Madyan (d. 594/1198). As will be shown, they not only overlap in their emphasis and interpretations of certain features of the mystical path, but in fact rely on a common basic understanding as regards mystical endeavors overall.
