Zusammenfassung:In this contribution, a model of competence and education in the Study of Religion is proposed. This model is based not only on general and specialist didactics and models of competence valid on other educational levels, but also on the existing teaching programme of the Religious Studies Department at the University of Zurich. Due to positive experiences with the teaching program in Zurich and based on didactical criteria, the authors maintain that the Study of Religion should be seen as a basic study programme rather than an education towards a specific occupation. However, in addition to the theoretical, historical and contemporary focus of the Study of Religion, the authors suggest a forth focal point, the Applied Study of Religion.
