Описание
Итог:In situations of adversity, positive religious coping is often an important factor in predicting psychological and religious/spiritual (R/S) well-being. Indeed, within the context of natural disasters, positive religious coping is a common meaning-making strategy, and it has been shown to predict positive psychological and R/S outcomes. People who are high in spiritual fortitude may demonstrate a greater capacity to draw from R/S resources in the midst of adversity. The present study examines this possibility using a sample of undergraduate students (N = 227) who lived in the region affected by Hurricane Matthew. Five weeks after the storm, participants completed measures of spiritual fortitude, religious coping, meaning in life, spiritual well-being, and disaster exposure. We hypothesized that spiritual fortitude would be related to higher positive religious coping, which in turn would be related to greater meaning in life and spiritual well-being. Bivariate correlations indicated that spiritual fortitude was positively related to positive religious coping, meaning in life, and spiritual well-being. Controlling for disaster exposure, positive religious coping mediated the relationships between spiritual fortitude and (a) meaning in life and (b) spiritual well-being. Implications for research on disasters and other forms of adversity are discussed.
