Resumo: | In this brief article, we will discuss the historical development of Confucius images in Brazil. Without a relevant sinological tradition, Brazilians know little about Confucius and generally attribute a religious profile to the Chinese sage. However, the contemporary context has promoted a revision of this paradigm. Based on the theories of intercultural dialogue proposed by Raimon Panikkar [1990], we will thus examine the images of Confucius in the Brazilian imaginary. Our analysis is structured on three main characters: first, the religious Confucius, which can be divided, even among the Christian Confucius, the Esoteric Confucius, and the Chinese mystical Confucius; second, the Political Confucius; finally, the Teacher Confucius. Throughout the text, therefore, we will make a presentation of these visions, which will allow us a possible final appreciation of this picture. |
