Riepilogo: | Information is given on Islamic fundamentalism in the West Bank and Gaza, in particular on the Hamas movement. The authors display that in the years 1986-1988 a new type of Islamic movement appeared, which contributed decisively to the preparation of the Intifada in December 1987, and in 1988 formed the Hamas movement. Whereas the Muslim Brothers with their goal to re-islamize society postponed the liberation of Palestine this new Islamic movement favored an immediate armed struggle against occupation. The authors further examine the Islamic movements' relation to the P.L.O. and to Israel, which "believed that the rise of fundamentalism in Gaza could be exploited to undermine the power of the P.L.O."
