Resumo:The revision of the Luther Bible for the 500th anniversary of the reformation in 2017 hits upon three relevant decisions for the discussion of canon. 1. The revision is oriented to the Masoretic Hebrew text (MT) of the Old Testament, even though, according to our current knowledge, this tradition does not always provide the earliest text. Echoes of the Septuagint (LXX) are reduced in this way, but the abiding commitment of Christianity to Judaism is clearly visible. 2. The revision translates the so called "apocrypha" (scriptures which are not part of the MT) consistently from the Septuagint (critical edition) whereas the Luther-Team used different sources. This decision corresponds to contemporary practice in other denominations, but unfortunately no ecumenical consensus could be found regarding the Oratio Manasseh. 3. The revision of the New Testament retains Luther’s order of books, although this arrangement can be questioned. This article develops these three points and considers their ramifications for future development.
