Description
Summary:The author seeks to analyse the current trends of Islam in Bangladesh, the assumption underlying the analysis being that there has been an upsurge of Islamic activities in the country particularly since the mid-1970s. It is argued that while certain steps taken by the government may have helped this upsurge, this upsurge itself cannot be solely attributed to any 'Islamic revivalism' but rather to the initiatives taken in this regard by some oil-rich Muslim countries in West Asia which have encouraged and in many eases generously financed Islamic missionory activities in Bangladesh.
