Sumario:The purpose of the Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD), through embryonic biopsy is the detection of genetic alterations before the implantation of human embryos produced by in vitro fertilization (IVF). Its main purpose is the selection of embryos based on their genetic indemnity. However it can also be used to select the sex or eventually other characteristics according to the parents’ wishes. This procedure has been the subject of many discussions in various fi elds, involving bioethical and legal refl ections. Also for Theological Ethics this technique has been criticized in terms of the respect for the life and integrity of human beings during life development.
