AB Orsy behandelt jeden dieser Canones ausführlich, zeigt ihre Anwendung, Stärken und Schwächen. Dabei diskutiert er die Aufgabe des Rechts, die Kunst der Interpretation, und zieht einige Konsequenzen. Die Schwäche unseres Systems ist, dass wir Regeln wohl in der Theorie haben, aber keine starken prozessualen Institutionen in der Praxis. Den Canones wohnt ein Trend gegen Wachstum und Entwicklung inne. Kanonisches Recht darf nicht länger immun sein gegen Entwicklungen besonders der Theologie. Kirchenrechtler müssen Kenntnis haben von anderen theologischen Wissenschaften, aber auch von anderen Rechtssystemen, um ihren Horizont zu erweitern. Man sollte sich zunehmend beschäftigen mit fundamentalen Fragen des kirchlichen Rechtssystems
