Descripción
Sumario:Examining the Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations since 1993 the article holds that they are conducted in a very different political and psychological atmosphere than previous ones since both sides are aware that this time the outcome will define the national character of both Israel and the Palestinians. It outlines the different objectives in Palestinian and Israeli policy stressing the fact that the Palestinians are committed to the creation of a Palestine state whereas the Israeli government under Netanyahu does its most to undermine any prospects for a Palestinian state. Despite this obstacle in the Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations the article remains optimistic. The recognition of one another, it argues, will eventually compel both sides to accept a political settlement. (DÜI-Mjr)
