总结: | In honor of Ralph W. Klein and his important scholarly work on the textual history of the Hebrew Bible and the Septuagint, this essay analyzes the text-critical arguments in the first homily on Psalm 77 LXX (78 Heb.), a text that was fortuitously rediscovered in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in 2012 and identified as Origen of Alexandria’s. Origen meets several discrepancies between his text of Ps 77:2 and the quotation of that verse in Matt 13:35 (including the attribution of the quotation “to the prophet Isaiah” in some manuscripts). Origen’s “text-critical dilemma” is that he wishes both to “correct” the text via textual criticism, and assure his hearers that the Scriptures are reliable guides, if limited ones. Serendipitously, it was in looking at Gruber ms 152 (= GA 1424) for this occasion thatI discovered its marginal gloss “Isaiah” in Matt 13:35, a further ninth-to tenth-century testimony to the more difficult reading that should be added to Nestle-Aland 29. |
