Описание
Итог:This essay attempts to study this aspect of Asian spirituality - the Buddhist teaching on mindfulness, which is receiving special attention in recent years in the secular West as behaviour therapy and in Christian spirituality as a form of spiritual exercise. This paper attempts to examine the origin of mindfulness and the experience of one of its famous practitioners, the Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh. In exploring the Christian version, the biblical perspective of mindfulness, this essay highlights the works of Christian monks, Thomas Merton, Thomas Keating, and other Christian practitioners, to reveal the potential of mindfulness as a valuable resource for spiritual renewal. Mindfulness is by no means the exclusive property of the Buddhist; it can be discovered within the wellspring of the Christian tradition. However, doctrinal formulations which form the backbone of the Christian faith, and scholasticism in the Middle Ages, have relegated this contemplative and experiential dimension of Christianity to the background. It is now waiting to be revived and restored, interestingly, through exposure to Buddhism. It has become a valid spiritual exercise that needs to be recognised as an important dimension of Christian life and a valuable resource of interfaith dialogue between Buddhists and Christians.
