Sumario:This essay will examine Panikkar's understanding of Christianity in relation to other faiths, including the metaphors he uses to portray this relationship, his encounter with Hinduism and his understanding of dialogue as "intra-religious." Ever conscious that Christianity is based on an historical event, Panikkar identifies some of the social and political factors that shape Christian selfunderstanding in five distinct phases.
