| Riepilogo: | Within the Gadara/Umm Qays Project of the Orient Department of the German Archaeological Institute Berlin an archaeological survey is conducted since 2010. The main goal of the investigations is to set the ancient city complex of Gadara/Umm Qays in relation to the environment and the hinterland. In the focus are the settlement dynamics and climate changes of the region since the Palaeolithic to modern times. The survey yielded among other things a huge amount of lithic artefacts deriving from several hundred open-air sites and caves. Based on typological criteria, the artefacts can be chronologically placed in different periods of the Palaeolithic. Seit 2010 wird im Rahmen des Gadara/Umm Qays Projektes der Orient-Abteilung des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts, Berlin ein Umlandsurvey durchgeführt. Das Hauptziel der Unternehmung ist es, Fragen zur Siedlungsentwicklung und zu Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Stadt und Hinterland vom Paläolithikum bis in die Neuzeit zu beantworten. Die Geländebegehungen lieferten unter anderem aus Oberflächenfundplätzen und Höhlen ein umfängliches Inventar an lithischen Hinterlassenschaften, die bis in das Paläolithikum zurückreichen. |
