Описание
Итог:The contribution examines the role that the exegesis of the book of Leviticus has had in the process of forming a Christian priesthood between the second and third centuries. This process runs parallel to the formation of the Christian concept of law (divine and natural). The First Letter of Clement is taken as the starting point. The role of Leviticus in the Ecclesiastical Constitutions, Cyprian and Origen is then examined. The paper concludes by observing that the process of priesthood that takes place in the first half of the third century seems to be the result of a double comparison: on the one hand, with the pagan priesthood, its institutions, its secular juridical apparatus, which guaranteed its continuity thanks also to the support of the State; on the other, with the Levitical model, which justified the election of the sacerdos for life and the particular nature of priesthood detached from civic functions and dedicated solely to the worship of God.
