總結:The painter, sculptor and performance artist, Joseph Beuys, was born in 1921, in Krefeld (Germany.) His wide-ranging thinking is deeply rooted in the Rhineland, Ireland and southern Italy. In the contexts of these Catholic countries, an archaic past is combined with current imbalances and open modernity. Beuys was strongly attached to these cultures, especially to the Neapolitan environment. He felt supported in his Christian faith, but not by the partisan formations of the Church. He sought a radical present in arts, with a humanistic characterization. The main themes he was interested in were the human person, illness and death. He, therefore, opened up art to a broader understanding, in which religious aspects play a central role. Faith in Christ and the resurrection runs through Beuys’ work but is never completely absorbed into it.
