Riepilogo:This article is an attempt to demonstrate that many unwarranted assumptions have been made regarding the identification of Yahweh with the sun. Four primary areas of evidence used to argue for solar-Yahwism are re-examined. The first area of evidence is archaeological finds; these are noted as being often ambiguous. The second piece of evidence is the alleged solar alignment of Solomon's temple. The third set of evidence comes from theophoric names with solar elements which are of limited information for ancient religion. Biblical passages which refer to Yahweh and the sun are the fourth area explored. Alternative explanations are offered for each passage.
