Description
Résumé:This paper seeks to investigate what faith environment would support the development of children's spirituality (focusing, in particular, on older children or young people). It argues that we can draw on the wisdom of tradition with insight from contemporary knowledge constructions through a postmodern re‐reading of faith. In doing so it creates a tension between religion, understood as doctrinal formula, with its concern for knowledge, political ends and power, and faith as a possibility within an environment of uncertainty. If the latter is promoted over the former, then we have to ask what educational changes need to be undertaken for children and young people to be provided with conditions that entertain the possibility of faith rather than the opportunity of reward that comes from the affirmation of religious (or secular) ‘certainties’.
