The thematic part, entitled ‘Midrashic Studies’, offers papers on ‘Ocular Desire in Midrashic Hermeneutic’, on circumcision and its link to hermeneutics in rabbinic and patristic literature, on the cultural practice of reading in ancient Israel and medieval Europe, on ‘Midrash as Literary Theory’, and on ‘Midrash and Symbolic Economy’. The themes of the review-essays belong by and large to the same fields, notably a chapter which engages with several publications by Virginia Burrus and is entitled ‘The Talmud Meets Church History’. All of these pieces have previously been published in collections and periodicals, in particular Critical Inquiry and Diacritics. K1 Rezension DO 10.1093/jts/fli164
