RT Review T1 Salvation in the New Testament: Perspectives on Soteriology. Edited by Jan G. van der Watt JF The journal of theological studies VO 58 IS 1 SP 254 OP 258 A1 Wedderburn, Alexander J. M. 1942-2018 LA English PB Oxford University Press YR 2007 UL https://www.ixtheo.de/Record/1783720352 AB This volume is dedicated to Andrie du Toit on the occasion of his 75th birthday and contains for the most part papers from a conference on this theme by contributors with a South African connection. The emphasis in the volume is on the different images and metaphors used in the New Testament to express the event and the moment of salvation., In a first section devoted to ‘views on salvation’ in the Gospels and Acts, A. G. van Aarde (pp. 7–31) first describes Matthew's Gospel as a ‘story that re-tells the “history” of how God sent Joshua from Egypt as Moses’ successor to save Israel’; this ‘Joshua’ (Jesus) heals all of Israel by releasing it from ‘ “political” stress’ (p. 7).
