520 |a In his latest book Hans-Georg von Mutius turns his attention from Rabbinic Responsa literature to medieval Christian Hebraism, taking as focus an anti-Jewish polemical work of English provenance, titled Ysagoge in theologiam. Its author is a certain Odo whose identity, in spite of David Luscombe's and Anna Sapir Abulafia's best efforts to unmask it, continues to elude us. Dating from the 1140s and dedicated to Gilbert Foliot, a Benedictine scholar who ended his successful ecclesiastical career as bishop of London, the Ysagoge proves a fascinating reflection of scholastic interest of the period. It combines Abelardian and Victorine ideas on the Creation, the Redemption, the Sacraments, and the Trinity with biblical citations in Hebrew and Latin.
