AB This book is the second monograph of Professor Coakley's career, the first being her doctorate on Troeltsch (1988) which is relevant to chapter 4 of the new volume (GSS hereafter). A co-edited volume (1993) with David Pailin in honour of Maurice Wiles lies at the root of chapter 3, and marks out Professor Coakley's commitment to patristic studies, but of a distinctive kind—in this case, arguing for a most significant shift in how to engage with trinitarian belief.
