| 520 | |a The ecclesiological topicality of synodality, the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the institution of the Synod, the document of the TIC and the horizon of the next Synod of 2023 obliges us to deepen the theological foundations of this "constitutive dimension of the Church" which is, according to Pope Francis, "the way of the Church that God expects in the third millennium". The article seeks to present the theological foundations underpinning synodality in a more systematic way. After an introduction that connects with current issues (1); it briefly reviews the biblicalhistorical data of what it means to "walk together" (2); it re-evaluates synodality as a conciliar heritage (3); it updates the Trinitarian and pneumatological foundations (4); it gives value to synodality from a Eucharistic ecclesiology (5); it deepens the ecclesiological foundations (6); and it proposes synodality as the style of life, action, celebration and mission proper to the Church (modus Ecclesiæ) from the ecclesial aspects of koinonia, diakonia, leiturgia and martyria. | ||
