Description
Summary:Mexico has a long tradition in the Church and State separation, which was building a system of laicity, not free of tensions, that we can observe in the debate over sexual and reproductive rights, where social relations considered private are politicized. From the reactions of the Catholic Church hierarchy to the approval of conyugality between same-sex couples and recognition of their right to adoption in Mexico City, a debate on the limits of freedom of expression, secular state and what is public and private, was open. This article analyzes the discursive practice of Cardinal Juan Sandoval Iñiguez, which is an assessment of moral character that takes the actor to the social reality and, at the same time, is an indicator of its performance and response in fields that are not proper to him.
