Sumario:The purpose of this review article is to summarize some of the most important pieces of historical evidence and interpretation that William Dever provides in his book, to respond to major points of disagreement that I have with his interpretation, and to appreciate the importance of this volume in the current discussion of the history of ancient Israel. This requires an examination of specific archaeological artifacts and tells, something the Dever covers so well in his integration into a historical picture. It also touches briefly on many of the major issues regarding Israel’s history from its origins to the 7th century and the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem and Judah.
