Zusammenfassung:Taking the example of the Roman Catholic Church, this article focuses on the role in the formation of ecumenical consciousness of acquiring knowledge about the current reform processes in confessional communities other than one’s own. It begins with an account of current reform efforts in the Roman Catholic Church, keeping in mind the ecumenical context. It then goes on to recall how, according to the Second Vatican Council, the catholicity of the one church of Jesus Christ is not identical with the institutional shape of the Roman Catholic Church. The article concludes with a set of theses that consider the significance for ecumenical formation and education of how we perceive developments in confessions other than our own.
