L’équipe des traducteurs, des protestants « évangéliques » de la Mission Baptiste au Sénégal, est soutenue par la Société WorldVenture. Leur objectif est « missionnaire », sans que cela porte atteinte à la qualité de leur travail linguistique. Les traducteurs, de langue maternelle wolof, à l’exception de la coordinatrice américaine de l’Équipe des traducteurs évangéliques (ÉÉ) ont accès aux langues bibliques et aux éditions des textes hébreu et grec de l’Ancien et du Nouveau Testaments, et aux travaux des exégètes contemporains. La traduction est rédigée dans un « wolof régional soutenu », et n’est pas conçue comme une étape vers une traduction œcuménique. Dans ces pages, après l’identification des traducteurs et de leur méthode, sont présentés des exemples. Ils sont choisis successivement dans l’Épître aux Romains : vocabulaire de la justification par la foi telle que la comprennent des protestants évangéliques ; le Cantique des Cantiques : comment éviter des connotations raciales dans la traduction de 1, 5 ; l’Évangile de Jean : comment éviter des confusions avec le vocabulaire coranique et les pratiques de la religion populaire wolof. Les travaux préparatoires de cette édition contribuent aux recherches actuelles sur la langue wolof, et Kàddug Yàlla gi enrichira le patrimoine littéraire wolof. | ||
| 520 | |a After more than 50 years, a Wolof translation of the Bible (Kàddug Yàlla gi, “The Word of God”) is projected for completion in 2023. The translation team, made up of “evangelical” Protestants, is working under the auspices of the Christian missionary organization WorldVenture. The team’s “missionary” objective does not compromise the quality of its linguistic work. The translators, native speakers of Wolof (except for the American coordinator of the Evangelical translation team–abbreviation ÉÉ), have access to the biblical languages and draw from Hebrew and Greek editions of the Old and New Testaments as well as from contemporary exegetical works. The translation is written in what the missionaries call “advanced regional Wolof.” The translation is not conceived of as a step towards an ecumenical translation with Roman Catholics. Following a presentation of the translators’ backgrounds and methods, we shall concentrate on three representative examples chosen from: 1) the Epistle to the Romans: the vocabulary of justification by faith as the evangelical Protestants understand it; 2) the Song of Songs: strategies for avoiding racial connotations in the translation of Song of Songs 1,5; 3) the Gospel of John: ways to avoid possible confusions with Koranic vocabulary and local Wolof religious practices. The missionaries’ preparatory work for this edition is in itself a contribution to contemporary research on the Wolof language. Kàddug Yàlla gi will serve to enrich the Wolof literary patrimony. | ||
| 520 | |a Fünfzig Jahre nach Beginn der Arbeiten an Kàddug Yàlla gi (Wort Gottes) wird im Jahr 2024 eine Bibelübersetzung in wolof veröffentlicht. Das Übersetzerteam, evangelikale Protestanten der Baptistenmission im Senegal, wird von der Gesellschaft WorldVenture unterstützt. Ihr Ziel ist missionarisch ausgerichtet, was aber der linguistischen Qualität der Arbeit keinen Abbruch tut. Die Übersetzer haben alle wolof als Muttersprache, mt einer Ausnahme, der amerikanischen Koordinatorin von der Gruppe „evangelikaler Übersetzer“. Sie haben Zugang zu den hebräischen und griechischen Ausgaben des Alten und Neuen Testaments und zu den Arbeiten der zeitgenössischen Exegeten. Die Übersetzung ist in „fortgeschrittener regionaler wolof-Sprache“ verfasst und versteht sich nicht als Durchgangsstadium einer ökumenischen Übersetzung. Im Artikel werden zunächst die Übersetzer und ihre Arbeitsweise vorgestellt, darauf folgen Beispiele der Arbeit: Aus dem Römerbrief, wo das Vokabular der Rechtfertigung aus dem Glauben, wie sie von den evangelikalen Christen interpretiert wird; aus dem Hohenlied, wo gezeigt wird, wie in der Übersetzung von 1, 5 rassische Anklänge vermieden werden; aus dem Johannesevangelium, wie eine Verwechslung mit dem koranischen Vokabular und der Praxis des Volksglaubens der wolof vermieden wird. Die vorbereitenden Arbeiten tragen zudem zu den aktuellen Forschungen der wolof-Sprache bei. Kàddug Yàlla gi wird das literarische Erbe in wolof bereichern. | ||
