Bernini's own views of Michelangelo, found in the diary by Paul Freart de Chantelou, are compared with the biographical literature and with portrait medals of both artists. The uses of Michelangelo found in the seventeenth century sources reveal a complex of polemic on the part of artist, patrons, and biographers. | ||
