Περιγραφή
Σύνοψη:South Africa has a rich and diverse collection of shipwrecks along its coast. It is of utmost importance to protect and conserve these underwater cultural heritage resources through adequate legislation. The country implemented new conservation legislation in the form of the National Heritage Resources Act in 1999, which provides for comprehensive heritage resource management. The sections specifically focussing on underwater cultural heritage protection in the NHRA constitute a considerable improvement on previous legislative measures. This article explores the regulatory measures for underwater cultural heritage protection in South Africa under the NHRA regime and determines its effectiveness in practice.
