Sumario: | This article offers an interpretation of Jesus’ invitation to “rest for the soul” in Matthew 11:28–30. On this interpretation Jesus’ offer of rest is an invitation to start a whole new way of life—a life characterized by rest with God working its way into the depths of one’s soul by means of indwelling Spirit. This understanding of Jesus’ offer of rest is developed in light of the immediate context in Matthew, parallel passages in Jeremiah and Sirach and a biblical theology of the fall. |
