Sumario:To fully appreciate the edition of Philo’s works extant only in Armenian by Ioannes-Baptista Aucher (Mkrtič‘ Awgerean / Avgerian, 1762–1854),¹ it is necessary to recount briefly the history of the establishment of the Mekhitarist Order at the turn of the eighteenth century, and the founding of the monastery on the Isle of San Lazzaro in Venice by the abbot Mĕkhit‘ar (Mxit‘ar) of Sebaste / Sivas in Turkey (1676–1749).
