AB Le sens des propositions religieuses est examiné d'abord en référence à la théorie du sens selon Wittgenstein (Tractatus) et au Positivisme Logique, tout particulièrement dans les écrits de A. Flew, T. McPherson, R. M. Hare et R. B. Braithwaite. La dernière pensée de Wittgenstein (Philosophical Investigations) invite à considérer ensuite le sens comme ' usage ', les ' jeux de langage ' et les ' formes de vie '. L'article examine alors la pensée de P. Winch et de D. Z. Phillips en tant qu'illustration de la thèse selon laquelle la religion serait un ' jeu de langage ' autonome, et développe la manière dont cette thèse s'énonce dans le domaine des concepts religieux, tels la prière de demande, le miracle et l'immortalité. Enfin cette thèse est critiquée de plusieurs points de vue. The meaning of religious propositions is examined first of all against the background of the theory of meaning of Wittgenstein's Tractatus, and of Logical Positivism, in particular in the treatment of A. Flew, T. McPherson. R. M. Hare and R. B. Braithwaite. Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations gives rise to considerations of meaning as ' use ', ' language games ' and ' forms of life ', and the thought of P. Winch and D. Z. Phillips is examined as expounding the thesis that religion is an autonomous ' language game '. This is seen in its application to such religious concepts as petitionary prayer, miracle and immortality. This thesis is then criticised from several points of view.
