| Summary: | Eckhart is one of the best known figures of the Middle Ages, but he has a profoundly theological significance for today: ‘He spoke from out of eternity’, wrote Johannes Tauler (Sermon 15), he spoke from out of the heart of God, out of the trinitarian life which he had been granted to know. This enabled him to give a remarkable account of the Incarnation, the Trinity, and the meaning of human life, consisting in ‘becoming by grace what God is by nature’. His influence is testimony to how his ideas have survived the test of time. RésuméAujourd’hui, Eckhart est l’un des plus connus parmi les médiévaux, mais son actualité est profondément théologique : « Il parlait à partir de l’éternité », disait Jean Tauler (Sermon 15), il parlait à partir du cœur de Dieu, de la vie trinitaire qu’il lui avait été donné de connaître. Aussi a-t-il remarquablement rendu compte de l’Incarnation, de la Trinité, du sens de la vie humaine, qui consiste « à devenir par grâce ce que Dieu est par nature ». Sa parole traverse les siècles, comme en témoigne son influence. |
