Yet, to the eyes of anyone who reads these words thinking not of our faith, but of Christ’s, this insertion appears in an altogether favorable light. May we suppose that such was the thought of those responsible and that consequently they should be declared innocent, with blame falling upon those who subsequently suppressed the faith of Christ? As long as this supposition goes without confirmation or refutation - is either possible? - the genesis of the old formula of consecration for wine will remain an enigma | ||

Or, aux yeux de quiconque lit ces mots en pensant, non pas à notre foi, mais à celle du Christ, cette insertion apparaît sous un jour tout à fait favorable. Peut-on supposer que telle était la pensée de ces responsables et qu’en conséquence, ils devraient être innocentés, les reproches étant renvoyés à ceux qui, par la suite, auraient supprimé la foi du Christ? Aussi longtemps que cette supposition ne sera ni confirmée ni infirmée - mais peut-elle l’être? - la genèse de l’ancienne formule consécratoire du vin restera une énigme. | ||
