Resumo:The notion of literary entrapment has so far not been introduced comprehensively into the study of the communication of the Fourth Gospel. This paper is an argument for the inclusion of this strategy in the list of stylistic/literary devices in the Gospel of John. The presence of this device in John 4:1-42 is indicated, the dynamics of the device are elucidated, and the function in this specific pericope is discussed.
