RT Article T1 Afinidades entre a ditadura de 1964 e o anticatolicismo de evangélicos conservadores: expressão da hegemonia capitalista norte-americana JF Plura, revista de estudos de religião VO 13 IS 2 SP 64 OP 80 A1 Netto, Rodrigo de Sá LA Portuguese PB ABHR YR 2022 UL https://www.ixtheo.de/Record/1832568008 AB In the early 1950s in the United States, in the form of a psychological and propaganda war, an ideological campaign was formulated, which also foresaw the involvement of churches, to keep Latin America under the North American influence in the face of the Marxist advance. Reverberated in Brazil by conservative evangelicals, these ideas assumed anti-Catholic traits due to the relative popularity of Liberation Theology among the biggest church in Brazil, visible in the friction between catholic portions and the 1964 dictatorship. Analyzing correspondence sent by conservative evangelicals to the dictators of the 1970s and 1980s, this article seeks to demonstrate the success in transferring the ideals propagated by the North American campaign to Brazilian religious sectors, forming a hegemony.
