AB Cet article analyse les raisons de la faible participation des jeunes aux activités, initiatives et organisations du mouvement multiconfessionnel en Australie. Il aborde cinq problèmes qui empêchent la génération Z et la génération Y de s’engager dans le mouvement multiconfessionnel en se basant sur des études antérieures sur ces générations et sur des données issues d’interviews de militants multiconfessionnels en Australie. Une part importante de la génération Z et de la génération Y ont des identités religieuses hybrides, s’identifiant comme non religieuses et / ou se situant en marge des institutions religieuses. Pourtant, cette posture est incompatible avec le modèle de dialogue qui suppose que les participants soient des membres à part entière et sans ambiguïté de leur tradition religieuse, imprégnés de la légitimité de leur institution et dotés du rôle de représentant. Si les acteurs multiconfessionnels déplaçaient leur attention du dialogue aux aspects militants, relationnels et humanitaires du multiconfessionalisme, cela permettrait aux jeunes de participer au mouvement d’une manière qui reflète tant leurs expériences, leurs préoccupations que leurs objectifs.
AB This article examines why young people rarely participate in the activities, initiatives, and organisations of the multifaith movement in Australia. It will discuss five issues which impede Generation Z and Millennials from engaging in the multifaith movement by drawing on previous studies on these generations and interview data with multifaith activists in Australia. There is a significant portion of Generation Z and Millennials who have hybrid religious identities, identify as nonreligious, and/or stand at the margins of religious institutions. Yet, this is incompatible with the dialogue model which assumes that its participants are unambiguous full members of their religious tradition who are imbued with the legitimacy of their institution and endowed with the role of a representative. If multifaith activists shifted the focus from dialogue to activist, relational, and humanitarian aspects of the multifaith movement, it may empower young people to participate in a way that reflects their experiences, concerns, and goals.
