總結:At the turn of the millenium, the situation of the majority of women in India is far from cheering. The Gender-related Development Index (GDI) devised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - imperfect as it may be - provides a glimpse of a grim scenario. In the UNDP's Human Development Report 19981 India's GDI rank is 128 (out of 163 countries). In other words, the country's record in enabling its female citizens to enjoy the benefits of human development is worse than that of 127 other nations of the world.
