Sumario:Edvard Munch, an outstanding Norwegian painter and graphic artist, has created many artworks that still evoke a lively emotional response from the audience. The artist's life was full of losses, fears and contradictions; he struggled with himself and with his mental illness for most of his life. Having studied the history of Edvard Munch's life and creative path, we make an attempt to investigate his mental disorders and the influence they have had on his art. A review of available scientific sources has been made, information on the main stages of life and creative work of the artist has been systematized and briefly presented. The lack of information about the artist's mental illness is very extensive, but given his hereditary burden and symptoms described in the literature, we suggest that it is more likely he had schizophrenia comorbid with alcohol use disorder than a schizoaffective or bipolar affective disorder.
