Описание
Итог:The Excellent Chronicle of Flanders is one of the most important regional chronicle traditions, firmly embedded in the political context of the Flemish towns in the late Middle Ages. This article discusses the reception of the Excellent Chronicle in the early sixteenth century, and its commercial rather than political position within Bruges’s professional book market before it was printed by the Antwerp workshop of Willem Vorsterman in 1531. The commercialization of the Excellent Chronicle in early sixteenth-century Bruges is analyzed through the case study of Andries de Smet, a stationer and member of the Bruges chamber of rhetoric, The Three Female Saints, and in particular through his role in the writing process of the Excellent Chronicle, and the chronicle’s use during the joyous entry of Prince Charles of Habsburg in Bruges in 1515.
