Resumo:The main theme of the article is the genesis and evolution of the Free Zone (FZ) - a reformed movement that emerged from the mainstream of the Church of Scientology (CoS) and actually consisting of various, sometimes very loose groups and separate people practicing the original version of Scientology (how it was supposed to be according to L. Ron Hubbard, founder of this new religious movement) or with modifications proposed by the leaders of the separated communities. The Free Zone was formed in 1982-1983, when old Hubbard (who died in January 1986) was almost completely ousted by his young successor David Miscavige (born 1960). A significant number of people (including high-ranking CoS officials) received from the new authorities a patch of Suppressive Person - an analogue of heretics in Christianity. The result of the division there were almost half of the former members of the community leaving the CoS ranks. The text focuses on the causes of schism and the specifics of the newly emerged reform groups. The split caused further schisms and divisions, which can be broadly divided into two major big groups: advocates of LRH Technology and supporters of modified religious technology.
