| Resumo: | This essay offers a historical and legal overview of the main provisions between the Papal State and the Italian State from the pre-unification era to the current republic, highlighting the transition from unilateral legislation, to legislation that at first was simply a general agreement, and then was bilateral, based on specific agreements between the State and the Church. It changed the concept of artistic religious heritage, which became a religious cultural good - that is, an essential element for knowing and understanding a nation’s culture through the values, uses, and traditions of religion.
