AB El patrimonio documental de las órdenes religiosas, tanto de bibliotecas como de archivos, siempre han sido considerados como una fuente importante de conocimiento. En la edad contemporánea hay dos grandes acontecimientos históricos que marcaron el devenir de las órdenes religiosas: la desamortización y la guerra civil española. Estos dos hechos hicieron que la documentación y los libros que poseían las órdenes desaparecieran en su totalidad o quedarán muy mermados. Ante este respecto vamos a centrarnos en el caso de los franciscanos en Valencia, centrándonos en el caso del Monasterio de Santo Espíritu de Gilet, donde la biblioteca que totalmente desmantelada en dos ocasiones, y en el antiguo archivo de la Provincia Franciscana de San José, donde gracias a la buena de voluntad de frailes y familiares vinculados a la orden se consiguió salvar parte de los fondos que hoy conservamos.
AB The documentary heritage of religious orders, both from libraries and archives, have always been considered an important source of knowledge. In the contemporary age there are two great historical events that marked the future of religious orders: the confiscation and the Spanish civil war. These two events caused the documentation and books that the orders possessed to disappear in their entirety or they will be greatly diminished. In this regard, we are going to focus on the case of the Franciscans in Valencia, focusing on the case of the Monastery of Santo Espíritu de Gilet, where the library was totally dismantled on two occasions, and on the old archive of the Franciscan Province of San José, where thanks to the goodwill of the friars and relatives linked to the order, part of the funds that we keep today were saved.
