Resumo:The article discusses the flood risks faced by Assur, the ancient capital of the great Mesopotamian empire in the first millennium BCE in Iraq due to the construction of the Makhoul Dam along the nearby Tigris River. It highlights that severe and prolonged droughts have necessitated the dam's construction, first proposed two decades ago by then-Iraqi president Saddam Hussein's government.
