AB The article discusses the genesis of words in ancient texts from both ancient Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt. Topics include no indication of boundaries of words in the Mesopotamian scribes, medievalist Paul Saenger' finding regarding the introduction of spaces along with silent reading in classical and medieval texts, and no evidence of spaces in alphabetic writing until about 1,200 years following the invention of the alphabet.
