L’occupation de cet ensemble troglodytique jusqu’à une époque très récente rend la datation de ces aménagements difficile ; les sources archéologiques, les sources écrites et la découverte en 1993 d’un trésor monétaire lagide enfoui en 242 av. n.è. au pied des falaises assurent l’ancienneté de leur occupation. | ||

After presenting the geological context in which these caves are located, the author focuses on their description and layout. While three caves seem to have been entirely cut, others are natural but include specific features, such as cisterns. The occupation of these caves until a very recent time makes their dating difficult, but the ancient writings of Flavius Josephus and the discovery in 1993 of coins from 242 bc prove their ancient occupation. | ||
